Valé Peter Troy
troy.jpgSad news just in confirms that Peter Troy has passed away.

Peter was one of the true pioneers of surfing in this country: riding Greg Noll’s board at Torquay in 1956; co-founding the Bells Beach Easter Contest in 1962; showing surf movies in Victoria in the ’60s; awarded the Order of Australia medal for his contribution to surfing.
Born in 1940, of all his many accomplishments, Peter Troy will probably be best remembered for his travel exploits. Peter Troy blazed trails throughout the world in the days before it was easy, the list of countries he visited being over 140. In 1964 he was the surfer who actually introduced the sport to Brazil! He did the same to the English Channel Islands in 1963. He travelled as far north as the Spitsbergen Islands, almost at the North Pole, and as far south as Tierra del Fuego; made the final of the 1964 Peru International; hiked the Kalahari … an amazing character, the tales will go on and on.
