A headline worthy of the trashiest newspapers, and certainly not one that we ever thought would appear on this web site, but, it appears one of our heroes from the 1960-70s has been keeping a secret we just never suspected.
It's hard to tell from this photo we found on a google search, on a site called pinkguide.com, but it is actually Peter Drouyn!
Peter was a major surfstar in the 1960s, dominating at the junior level before becoming Australian Open Champion in 1970. In 1974 he starred in Bob Evan's final film, named Drouyn, and invented the man-on-man concept for surfing, when contest director of the first Stubbies events. From there his list of achievements start to take on more bizarre elements as Peter, more often than not, attempted to create his own headlines.
But transforming himself into (what he calls) "Marilyn Monroe lookalike" Westerly Windena, is certainly a turn in his life no-one would have suspected. Now aged 59, Peter claims his body is shedding male hormones naturally and creating more female ones, and apparently has plans to undergo full gender re-assignment. He says he feels he has always been a woman, and is now going to live his life as such.
